AJ Fernandez New World Robusto

 Size: 51/2 X 55

Wrapper: Dark Nicaraguan

Binder: Jalapa

Filler: Blend of Ometepe,
Condega and EstelĂ

When I first heard about this cigar I was excited. I have enjoyed everything I smoked made my AJ Fernandez and this cigar was no exception. This is the first cigar AJ has created together with his father, Ismael Fernandez. A great presentation, this box pressed cigar had a beautiful and and a red ribbon at the foot. Starting spicy and sweet for most of the cigar and rounding off the last third with a nice dark coffee note. The burn stayed mostly even throughout and the smoke was full, creamy and billowing. The ash was a beautiful grey with streaks of black. I give the AJ Fernandez New World the Cigar Assessor Approval. Smoke one when you can, you won't be disappointed.

Drew Estate Unveils “Tienda Exclusiva by Willy Herrera” for Barrister Cigars

Miami, FL – Drew Estate Tobacco Co. announced today the release of the first “Tienda Exclusiva by Willy Herrera”, a concept cigar by Willy Herrera. Made at La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate in extremely small batches, the Tienda Exclusiva line is specially crafted for one retailer per release, with only a few releases scheduled per year. The inaugural “Tienda Exclusiva by Willy Herrera” blend was produced for the owner of Barrister Cigars in Union, New Jersey, David Mallow, following the 2013 New Jersey Cigar Festival.

When asked about the blend, Willy Herrera responded from Estelí, Nicaragua: “This was one of the blends that I was working on through 2012 and 2013. David smoked it at the Festival and kept coming back for more. Eventually, he smoked every cigar I had brought, which I thought would be enough for the entire week! I knew he loved the blend and it felt right assigning it to him for my first Tienda Exclusiva.”

David Mallow, owner of Barrister Cigars, said that, "the ‘Tienda Exclusiva by Willy Herrera’ is a truly beautiful project that I am honored to be involved with. It’s no secret that Willy is one of the most talented tobacco blenders out there, and we can’t wait to have the cigar in our humidor.”

As stated previously, every “Tienda Exclusiva by Willy Herrera” blend is a limited quantity production cigar made at La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate. Jonathan Drew noted, “I recommend you don’t sleep on this one. These are one and done. Willy has a lot on his plate right now as Master Blender of La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate. As I’ve said before, ‘Boutique is in the Heart’ and Willy has spent so much time creating and experimenting with blends. We have some real gems out of the blends he has worked on. Now, it’s time to get them into production.”

The “Tienda Exclusiva by Willy Herrera” for Barrister Cigars is packed in 10-count boxes and will sell for $12.00 MSRP per cigar, plus applicable state taxes. They will be offered for sale on September 2nd from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at a Barrister Cigars event in Union, New Jersey, with Willy Herrera and Jonathan Drew hosting the event.

Gran Habano Cigars Reaches Out to the Cigar Community to Save Their Trademark.

Miami, Florida, August 6, 2014 Santa Cruz Tobacco, LLC., distributor to Gran Habano Cigars, reaches out to cigar industry and customers to help with trade mark issue.

Gran Habano was notified by the U.S. Trade Mark office stating that “Gran Habano” is misleading the public. The Trade Mark office claims that with the brand name “Gran Habano” is misleading the public to think we are selling cigars from Cuba. We all in the cigar industry know that this is not true and Cuban cigars being sold in this country is ILLEGAL. All retail locations know that Gran Habano products are not manufactured in Cuba and are grown in Honduras and Nicaragua as all labels on Gran Habano cigars state. The public buys our cigars for the quality of the cigar and Gran Habanos customers do not smoke them “BECAUSE THEY THINK THEY ARE FROM CUBA”.

We are asking everyone who would like to help us dispute this claim by filling out the blanks on the attached MS Word forms and returning them to Gran Habano via email or info@ghcigars.com and fax (305) 436-5740 before Friday 08/08/14. Please help us stop the Government from trying to remove a name so well known in the cigar community. Together we can stop this from happening.

THANK YOU to everyone and your efforts in this matter will be greatly appreciated from us at Gran Habano.

Montecristo Social Event - Los Angeles.

Friday night, I along with my friend Armond attended the Montecristo Social Event at the Standard Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. We were excited to finally get there, after driving over an hour and a half in traffic to make the 6:00pm start. The same distance took us 20 minutes to get home later.

When we got off the elevator to enter the roof we walked toward the Montecristo Event sign. It was a beautiful evening. We walked to the sign up table and met Ashley Duff who checked us in then handed us each two drink tickets and a Romeo y Julieta RyJ cigar. (See review)

We grabbed a beer from the bar and found a table to sit down. There was a slight breeze so we couldn't use the wooden matches laid out on the tables to light our cigars. So, I pulled out my Colibri Stealth 3 and shared it. People really loved the lighter. Another gentleman, Steve Webb was sitting at the same table and we talked cigars for a while. Really nice guy.

Waiters walked around with trays of fine finger foods. Seared ahi, bacon wrapper shrimp, mini-burgers, chicken and waffles. They also had a table of chips, dips and cold cuts.

Soon after, Larry Palombo, VP of Tobacco Altadis U.S.A., came and sat at our table and took out packages of Ligero, Viso, Seco tobacco leaf. Wrapper, binder and filler were given to us to feel and smell and then a little education followed each leaf. Larry then took some filler and bunched it up, folded it and then rolled it with a binder and then wrapper.

Both Armond and I wanted to try it but that wasn't going to happen as Larry placed the finished product in his mouth. We were really enjoying sitting and chatting with Larry. Ashley then walked over to take Larry to another table of eager cigar smokers.

We talked some more with Steve and Ashley throughout the evening and then finally left a while after the event finished.

Everyone seemed to really enjoying themselves. The event went by to fast.

It was a nice event and well worth the ticket price. Looking forward to their next one. Maybe I'll be able to roll my own cigar next time.

AJ Fernandez's New World Introduced at IPCPR.

Press Release: A.J. Fernandez to Introduce their Newest Cigar Brand at the IPCPR: New World

(Miami, Florida) July 11, 2014— A.J. Fernandez Cigars, known for producing consistently highly rated and sought after cigars is proud to unveil “New World” at the 2014 IPCPR in Las Vegas. New World will be showcased as a value brand featuring the same quality, consistency, and workmanship that is expected from A.J. Fernandez.  The New World Cigar brand is the first blend in where A.J. Fernandez and father Ismael Fernandez come together

Master blender A.J. Fernandez has created New World. A unique cigar which pays homage to the discovery of then “mystical smoking leaf” called tobacco by the Europeans when their ships landed in what is now called the New World. In November 1492, Jerez and Luis de Torres first observed natives smoking as they were searching for the Emperor of China. Not knowing they landed in what is now known as Cuba, they came across natives that made rolls of palm and mais leaves in the manner of a musket formed of paper with tobacco on the inside. One would light one side and drink the smoke out of the other.

A.J. Fernandez said: “The New World Cigar relates to expanding one’s knowledge and questioning the status quo by discovering our personal New Worlds as we go through life. The team at A.J. Fernandez Cigars is grateful for the amazing support we have received from the consumer and therefore will offer the New World Cigar at a value price as we invite everyone to join us on our New World journey.  Furthermore, I am especially proud to announce that my father Ismael Fernandez who recently retired after 17 years with the Plasencia family has now joined the A.J. Fernandez family. New World marks the first cigar that we work on together since he joined the company. “

The New World blend is an elegant box press cigar, beautifully adorned with a cigar band that depicts the European landing on the shores of the “New World.” As with every A.J. Fernandez cigar brand, New World is carefully hand crafted cigar which was blended under strict supervision of A.J. Fernandez in their EstelĂ, Nicaragua based factory.

The New World Cigar is a medium to full bodied cigar with an amazing aroma. Smokers of New World will experience elements of sweetness, spiciness in a very balanced and refined cigar. The New World Cigar is composed of a Jalapa binder, Viso Ometepe Filler, Condega Ligero, Esteli-Finca Soledad Ligero, wrapped in a beautiful Dark Nicaragua. At a MSRP of six dollars, A.J. Fernandez is looking for New World to be a first class cigar that can be a daily source of enjoyment.

New World Cigars come in a beautifully adorned 21 count box and come in four sizes.

Navegante:    5 ½ X 55 Robusto
Almirante:      51/2 X 55  Belicoso
Gobernador: 6 ½ X 55 Toro
Virrey:             6 X 58 Gordo

ABOUT A.J. FERNANDEZ CIGARS:
A.J. Fernandez Cigars is based on the rich tradition of the Fernandez cigar legacy. A.J. Fernandez now produces unparalleled, hand-rolled cigars in EstelĂ, Nicaragua which have garnered numerous top ratings and acclaim from cigar publications and consumers alike.  Today A.J. Fernandez continues the family tradition as he oversees production and manages day to day operations in his factory in EstelĂ.
