On this day I decided to pull another Torano cigar from my humidor to review. The Carlos Torano Casa Torano Maduro will be the third Carlos Torano cigar I will review. Earlier this year I reviewed both the Torano Signature Collection Robusto and the Torano Single Region Serie Jalapa Robusto. Both nice cigars. I will be pairing this cigar up with Flying Cauldron Butterscotch Cream Soda.

I pinched the dark chocolate, well-constructed cigar from its wrapper and smelled rich chocolate from the foot and stick. This stick is a little bumpy in a good way and has minimal veins. The band is chocolate, gold and green in color with a picture of a tobacco field in the background. I clipped the cap and took a dry draw of pepper and leather. I toasted the foot and tasted a mild cedar, citrus and pepper from the full smoke pumping out. The draw was very open and the grey as with a few streaks of black held on during the first third of this smoking experience. The burn was almost even.

The nice dense ash fell off around the halfway point. The smoke was still kicking out full as the burn became uneven. Hints of roasted coffee, citrus and cocoa were the flavors that dominated this second section of the smoke.

The burn even out on its own in the last section of this cigar and the smoke still was flowing out full. The ash held on for the rest of this smoke and notes of leather and coffee were the flavors that finished this third off. I smoked this cigar until I couldn't hold it anymore.

The Carlos Torano Casa Maduro Torano Robusto was  a very nice smoking experience and a Cigar Assessor Approved Cigar. Grab a few and put them in your humidor. You'll be glad you did. -July 7, 2013

Wilson Adams No. 2 Robusto

I tried this stick a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it. I contacted the company and told them about my experience and that I would like to review this cigar. Brandon reached out and we met at the Tobacco Barn and he gave me some sticks. I met his partner Steve and the Manager of the Tobacco Barn Masashi and we talked cigars for a few hours. I will be pairing this cigar up with a Green & Blacks Organic Mint Dark Chocolate bar and Sumatra iced Coffee from Coast2Coast Roasters.

I pinched this well constructed, minimally veined, milk chocolate colored cigar from it's cellophane wrapper and smelled hay and cocoa from the foot and a sweet barnyard from the stick. I clipped the cap and took an open draw of spice and earthiness. After toasting the foot, I tasted honey and cedar from the first puffs of full white creamy smoke. Later a nuttiness added to the flavor notes in this first section. The ash was a mishmash of greys with streaks of black and it held on for this entire section.

The dense ash held on for almost half of this smoking experience before it fell. I was able to pick it up after it fell. The burn was almost perfect and I tasted hints of leather, nuts, honey and sweetness in this second third of the smoke. The smoke continued to pump out full and creamy and the draw was nice and open.

The last third and the burn was even and the ash was a nice grey in color. The elegant but simple band came off without incident of tearing, glue blobs or defects underneath the band. I tasted hints of leather, spice and mild cedar in this section. The smoke was still kicking out full.

This smoking experience is what I remember from the last Wilson Adams cigar I smoked. An excellent smoke. This is a great cigar that is a medium to full bodied smoke and would be great any time of day. I give this cigar the Cigar Assessor's Approval. If you get a chance to get one of these cigars grab a few. You'll be glad you did. -July 3, 2013

Black Label Trading Company Royalty

I was recently sent three cigars from Brad Bortz of the Black Label Trading Company and today I decided to smoke and review the Royalty. I will be pairing this cigar up with some Virgil's Black Cherry Cream Soda and Sweet Riot's Pure 70% Dark Chocolate with Fabulous Flax.

This cigar come heavily banded with a big band at the foot with the name of the cigar and a oversize band close to the cap that covers almost a third of the cigar.

I sniffed the foot and smelled jasmine, this is a first for me. I also smelled a floral and minty aroma from the stick. Another first. I clipped the cap on this well constructed, minimally veined, honey nut colored cigar and tasted leather from my first open dry draws. Taking off the band at the foot, I then toasted the foot and tasted nutmeg from the first full puffs of creamy white smoke. The draw was nice and open. Later cedar and floral notes joined the nutmeg. The burn became uneven as this stick's burn line moved toward the second third. The nice dense grey ash held on for the first third.

The grey ash with streaks of black fell about halfway into this smoking experience. The burn became very uneven and needed a touch up from my lighter. The smoke was still full and creamy and the draw open. I tasted hints of citrus, roasted coffee and leather in the section section.

The last third and the burn even out while the smoke still pumped out full. The draw remained open and notes of leather, pepper and nuts were prevalent in this section.

 
This was a very pleasurable smoking experience. I only wish Brad sent me two so I could enjoy another without having to review it. The Black Label Trading Company  was established this year and are starting off right. I give this cigar the Cigar Assessor Approval and recommend this cigar. -July 1, 2013

Casa Magna Domus Magnus Limitada Optimus

Picked this stick up at a local cigar shop while I was hanging with friends. I have smoked a few Casa Magna Colorado's in the past and remember enjoying them. Got home threw this cigar in my humidor and a few weeks later pulled it out to review it. I will be pairing this cigar with a nice port given to me by my friend, writer and scholar Philip Bloom. Porto Vintage 1995 Quinta Do Infantado.

This box pressed chocolate brown cigar was a well constructed cigar with minimal veins and a slight oily sheen. The cap has a nipple type pig tail. It is double banded with the second band around the foot. I smelled chocolate gingerbread at the foot and chocolate on the stick. After clipping the cap I take a open dry draw of spice. I toasted the foot and taste cedar and toast in my first few draws of full smoke. Later on, I taste notes of cocoa and a tanginess. The burn was uneven and the grey dense ash fells about a third of the way in.

The second third and the smoke was still full and the burn was still uneven. Wood, leather, ginger and bitterness were the notes of flavors I tasted. About halfway in and the bitterness started taking over. Good thing I was drinking this Porto Vintage 1995. I could get the bitterness out of my mouth with the flavors of sweet berries, raisin and apricot. The ash fell again in this section.

The last section and all I tasted was bitterness. A harsh citrus and pepper bitterness. The burn remained uneven and the band came off without incident of tearing, defects or glue blobs. The smoke was still full. I finally placed this cigar down early because it was getting hot in my mouth. This cigar was tasting decent until halfway. After that all I began to taste was a bitterness. I cannot recommend this cigar.

I read somewhere that this cigar was a limited run of 100,000 sticks and sold out quickly after receiving mostly good reviews. Than they made some more cigars and released them recently. This cigar must be from the new batch. They should have quit when they ran out the first time. -June 31, 2013

Kafie 1901 Don Fernando Maduro Collection Toro

Gaby Kafie sent me two of his new 1901 Don Fernando cigars and I was excited to receive them. Today I sat down by the pool with this cigar, a capt' Eli's Root Beer and some Trader Joe's Triple Ginger Cookie Thins.

This chocolate colored cigar is well constructed with minimal veins running through it. The band is simple elegance and the foot has a piece of red ribbon wrapped around it. The stick had a light sheen to it. I took off the ribbon and sniffed the foot and a strong chocolate smell is filling my nose. I smelled a sweaty barnyard from the stick. I clipped the cap and took a dry draw of hay and a spice. I toasted the foot and tasted cedar and coffee from the first few draws of full creamy smoke. I also tasted hints of citrus and nuttiness later in the first third.

The nice grey dense ash held on until the second third and fell. The smoke was still kicking full and the burn was slightly uneven and needed a touch up. The flavors I tasted were citrus, leather, salt and nuts.

The ash fell again as the burn evened out it the third section. The draw remained nice and open as the smoke was still white, full and creamy. A mild sweetness flavor along with coffee and pepper filled out the flavors of the last third of this cigar.

This cigar was a very nice smoking experience and if you can get your hands on a few, I would. The Kafie 1901 Don Fernando Maduro Toro is a Cigar Assessor Approved Cigar.
