Camacho Corojo Limited 8/22 Torpedo

This cigar was given to me by a friend who purchased a few and wanted my opinion on it. I haven’t smoked many Camacho cigars in recent times so it will be nice to revisit the brand. I took the opportunity to smoke it during a party at my building. So I drank a few different red wines during this smoking event.

 

I take this milk chocolate colored torpedo with tiny veins out from its wrapper and sniff the foot. I smell nutmeg from the foot and barnyard from the stick. I clip off the pointy tip on this cigar and the dry draw is an easy draw of nutmeg and cocoa. I find the brown, black and gold band on this stick to be a little overbearing.

 

 

I slip off the band wrapped around the foot and toast the foot with my Lotus Torch. The stick ignites easily pushing out a nice light white smoke. The first flavor I taste is mocha. As I smoke on I taste hints of nuts and vanilla stick. The grey ash falls around a quarter of the way in.

 

The second third of this smoke produces hints of caramel, leather and cedar in flavor. The burn remains even and the smoke continues to kick on full.

 

The cedar and leather flavors continue during the last third of this cigar and then it loses all flavors toward the end and all I taste is flavorless smoke. The burn line has remained mostly even throughout this smoke and the smoke never let up its fullness.

 


When I took of the band on this stick, the glue was stuck to the wrapper and pulled it back a little, creating a little damage but not enough to matter.

 

 

 

From what I can remember, in the past I was never a big fan of Camacho cigars or Honduran tobacco. This was a nice smoke but I had trouble finding information for this cigar on the Internet. I even tried the Camacho site and could find it. That aside, after this recent smoking experience, I could be persuaded to venture back and try a few other Camacho cigars.

Cain Nub Maduro

Today, the family and I went to visit a good friend and his family. He is a fellow cigar lover I haven’t seen in about a year.  So I packed away a couple Kristoffs for the event. We got to his place in the afternoon and we decided to sit and enjoy the Kristoff Ligero Maduro Robustos and catch up.

Later on after a delicious grilled dinner of rib eye steaks, asparagus, jalapeno peppers, salad and a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon, my friend Rod brings out a couple Cain Maduro Nubs with a cup of Donut Shop coffee for an after dinner treat. I introduce him to Jazz Radio’s Gypsy Jazz channel and we sit down to enjoy our smokes on this 68 degree, clear sky night in the valley.

 

 

 

I unsheathe the 4 inch dark chocolate stick with minimal veins and place the foot under my nose and cocoa and sweet hay was the smell filling my nose. A pleasant aroma of cocoa emanates from the stick.

 

It wasn’t easy to cut this fat cigar with my Xikar Xi1 cutter, however I get it done. The dry draw is nice and open and I taste sweet hay. I toast the foot with my torch lighter and I get a blast of cedar and pepper flavors from the first few draws of full white smoke. The flavor soon changes to hints of leather and coffee.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Halfway through the cigar and I still taste notes of leather as hints of cocoa join the flavors I experience. The smoke is still full and creamy and the burn is even.

 

The grey and black ash holds on for almost the whole smoke.  I have to tap it off so I can continue to hold and smoke the cigar. The burn stays even and the white smoke full.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The last part of this smoke and I taste some wood notes before I put the cigar down for the last time.

 

 

This was a very nice, enjoyable after dinner cigar. It added a nice relaxing vibe to an already great time. This wasn’t my first Cain Maduro but it was my first NUB. I would add this stick to the collection in my humidor. -March 24, 2013

Garo 10th Aniversario Belicoso

My wife has the day off today so after I finished at the gym, picked up the kids from school; I decide to sit in the Jacuzzi with a nice cigar and splash of scotch. Some Glenmorangie Artein, jazz trumpet music and the Garo 10th Aniversario Belicoso cigar will suit me just fine.

 

I set up my mobile office beside the Jacuzzi, get in and let the relaxing begin. I take this big brown nut colored cigar with not many veins out of its wrapper and place it under my nose to inspect its fragrance. I smell cherry on the stick and sweetness and hay from the foot. The band on this stick is elegant in color and design. I clip the tip off the pointed end and take a nice open dry draw of cinnamon stick.

 

I toast the foot with a wooden match and the full creamy smoke fills my mouth with hints of a nutty coffee flavor. Later the flavor mixes with hints of cedar.

The grey ash still in form with streaks of black falls off as the even burn gets close to the second third of this cigar. Notes of mildly sweet dry fruit and leather dominate this second of the stick. Occasionally I taste a light salting in the back of my palate. The smoke is still full and creamy.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The ash holds strong until it reaches the last third of the cigar at the band and falls off for the second time. I still pick up notes of leather along with almond and cocoa flavor.  I smoke this bold stick until I can fit both fingers and lips on it without burning the fingers.

This is the fourth different Garo I have smoked and have thoroughly enjoyed. I don’t understand why these well constructed full flavored cigars aren't available at more cigar shops. Romeo y Julieta Romeo Robusto

Today is the first day of spring and the weather is sunny and a fine 65 degrees. What could be a better accompaniment to this nice day? A fine cigar and drink of Italian Roast iced coffee. I grab a Romeo y Julieta Romeo Robusto from my humidor and head off to the side stoop so the kids can play. Today, I also decided to try recording the session from my laptop as an experiment which prevented me from playing music.

 

The cigar is a nice chocolate brown in color with not many veins. I pull it out of the wrapper and smell chocolate from the foot and a sweet and a barnyard smell from the stick. The band is unique with way they spell Romeo out on it, red background with gold letters beneath white letters and gold lines boarding the outside of the band. I clip the cap and take an open smooth dry draw of hay and cinnamon stick.

 

I toast the foot with a wooden match and touch it up with my Lotus torch lighter due to a light wind. Notes of wood and nuts are present in the flavor along with roasted coffee and cedar that finish out the first third. The white smoke is full and creamy. The burn becomes slightly uneven.

 

The second third of this smoke and the smoke is still kicking on full. Leather and a mild spice dominate this section with an occasional tangy note hitting the back of my mouth.

 

 

  

The uneven burn reminds me of the tracks of a roller coaster and the nice grey ash with spots of black holds strong in its form and doesn’t fall until the halfway point.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

During the last third of this stick, a sweet fruitiness changes to notes of cedar and light pepper as I smoke on. The burn is almost even at this point and the white smoke is still pumping full. I smoke this cigar until I feel the heat on my lips.

 

I’m not surprised that this cigar is a very nice smoke. I can’t ever remember having a bad Romeo y Julieta cigar. I look forward to smoking another in the near future.

Garo 15th Aniversario Belicoso

Wrapper: Habano 200 Ecuador

Binder: San Vincente

Filler: Creol/Crojo

 

After posting my review of the Garo Centum Salomon, I was contacted by Dr. Garo and received a nice package of cigars from his line. Today, I decided after already smoking a 15th Aniversario Belicoso about a week ago, to smoke another and review it.

 

Sitting on my front stoop during this 68 degree, overcast late afternoon, I hit play on my Windows Media Player and The Romantic Moods of Jackie Gleason begins playing and I take this honey colored cigar out of its cellophane wrapper. Light in veins and well-constructed, I place this stick under my nose and barnyard is the fragrance I smell. The band is an elegant combination of silver, purple, black and white colors and looks very nice on this cigar. A bottle of Smart Water will accompany this event.

 

I clip the pointed tip about a ¼ inch from the point and take a dry draw. Hay and a hint of sweetness is what I taste. It lights very easy with a wooden match and the first draws of full creamy smoke produce notes of roasted almonds in my mouth. About a quarter of the way in I begin to taste hints of cedar.

 

As the burn gets close to ending the first third of this stick, the grey ash falls for the first time.

 

The next third and I taste nutty notes highlighted by honey and a light spice. The burn is even and the smoke is kicking full and creamy. The ash falls for a second time at the halfway mark.

 

The last third and the flavors I experience are salted nuts, cedar and a few puffs of sweetness.  The smoke hasn’t yet let up its fullness.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The burn on this cigar remained pretty even almost throughout the whole smoke. It was during the very last few puffs that an uneven burn started. Not a big deal as it didn't effect the smoke. I didn't experience this on the other stick I smoked at an eariler date.

 

After smoking a couple of these full bodied sticks, the Garo 15th Aniversario Belicoso has become one of my favorites. If you see them anywhere, grab a few and put them in your humidor. Just beware not to smoke this cigar on an empty stomach because it is a powerful smoke and you will feel it when you are done. -March 19, 2013
